Playhouse, Part Two

Today I spent some time working on the first panel of my playhouse.  When it's completed, it's going to be a tree with detachable fruit, a white picket fence, and a basket to put the fruit in.

I haven't made the trip to Joann's to get felt for all of the designs to go on the panels, but I had some felt lying around, so I did what I could with what I had today.

While I made a pattern for the fruit and the fence, I decided to go at the tree free hand.  I used a mixing bowl that I had in the cupboard to trace the outline of my tree.  It took a little bit of trial and error to get the silhouette that I wanted, but in the end I'm pretty happy with how it came out.  I googled illustrations of fruits that I could use to trace.

This is as far as I've gotten today.  I did cut the silhouettes for my creatures: a dog, a cat, a ducky, and two birds.  They'll make a debut as soon as I've got them cut from felt.

I'm very excited about how everything is turning out.  I don't think that I realized quite how much work it was going to be, but I know once I see how excited baby girl is to get it, it'll be worth it.  Once I've got the process mastered, I feel like I might end up making one of these for all the babies in my life.  Kids love this kind of stuff, right?

One final photo of Clem taking over while I do some cutting. Crazy cat.
